HELLOOOO-A CATCH UP!

Ooops...life intervened! Jet lag is gone, puppy is FINALLY better, but internet at my house is abysmal, so I'm at the coffee house, with lots to show and tell!

We took the overnight ferry from Copenhagen to Oslo; our accomodations were
spartan, but the ferry trip was fun

Oslo is also a beautiful city...and our good weather held.

 (I don't know why I look so grumpy...see what I'm about to eat!)

Lunch of mussels and frites...and a walk through the city.

We visited an open air museum and several "stave" churches...

We left Oslo and took two days to travel to Bergen, on the coast...up, up through the mountains

stopping at a charming, art-filled family run hotel en route...

I will finish up with Bergen on my next post.

I have been in the studio a bit since my return...I made a pair of pants,
V8929, View C, by Marcy Tilton. The fabric is a paisley denim by EmmaOneSock.
They are so comfortable, I've hardly had them off my body for 10 days!

The Bride and Groom, whose 1st anniversary is tomorrow, are on a two week anniversary road trip and will be stopping overnight next weekend. It's hard to believe a year has gone by so quickly!

MORE SWEDEN AND DENMARK

Catching up...with severe jet lag and a sick puppy, this week has been a hard one!

I last left you in Stockholm, one of the most beautiful cities I've ever visited.

Such fabulous design...made window-shopping so much fun! We left Stockholm for Kalmar, a historical city, where a significant treaty between Norway and Sweden was signed in the 1300's. It took place at Kalmar Castle, beautifully restored.

I absolutely adored the colorful buildings.

We were on our way to Denmark, via the Oresund Bridge, which connects Sweden and Denmark.

Just before we got on the bridge, we stopped for a little "comfort stop", which included a glass of mead.

Wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen...I had not been there since 1967, and a lot
has changed, but not the Little Mermaid...

We went on a walking tour of Copenhagen, seeing the sights

Architectural Museum...

Fascinating underwater sculpture...

The new Opera House...and, finally, ending up at one of the restaurants along colorful Nyhavn

having a tasty lunch and Danish beer (oops, looks like a Polish beer)

Our lovely Swedish guide, Ylva, had been wearing a very interesting outfit during the trip

with zippers front and back

so while we were in Copenhagen, she pointed out the shop the outfit came from....

and I managed to spend a few kroner there after lunch! (Here is their website)

and an outfit with some awesome zippers...

We took a ferry to Aero Island

and stayed for a few days...it is small, rural and lovely...

charming shops, pretty houses and gardens

good food (of course)

and interesting stone age ruins (hahahaha)

We came back to Copenhagen for half a day, 

 went to a few museums, had a final Danish danish, 

and boarded an overnight ferry to Norway. I'll save that for the next post!

STOCKHOLM...AND A "SMALL WORLD" EVENT

We arrived in Stockholm on Saturday afternoon...what a beautiful city!

Our hotel is a few blocks from this beautiful spot, full of boats, sightseeing or otherwise. We have been blessed with great weather, sunshine and breezes, just a few sprinkles of rain. Dave and I went off to the museum of Modern Art, as we had heard it was a great museum.

And indeed it was...

A wonderful sculpture garden outside the entrance...

After a few hours on our own, we met up and had lunch in the museum restaurant.

(Did I mention the food? Fabulous!)

On our way back to the hotel, we ran into a few sprinkles, so we ducked into a pretty little bar/cafe

To get out of the rain...

The bill, for one glass of wine, and one beer, was US$28. Ouch! This city is VERY expensive.

The "small world" event? After we met up with our travel companions that evening, a woman came over to me and said she "recognized" me from my wardrobe on my blog...a long-time friend of hers, Patty Carlson, and Patty's sister, Mary Boalt, had sat next to me at Sham's workshop which I blogged about last January (sorry, I can't link when I'm blogging with the iPad app). Mary follows my blog, and had told her sister that I was traveling to Scandinavia on the same date as the friend, Mary Ann. What are the odds we'd be in  the same group? There are THOUSANDS of tourists in Stockholm!

City squares with great historical stories to tell...

Beautifully painted buildings..

And always, the enchanting waterways.

We leave in the morning for Kalmar, and then on to Copenhagen..can't wait!
