The Pants!

YAY! Here are my first (showable) pair of pants made from the draft Lynda Maynard made for me last month.
                                              No "Butt Puddle"

Kathryn (fzxdoc) on Stitchers' Guild suggested I put in a "before" photo...here it
is:
Big difference, huh?

They are made of an off-white stretch linen from Harts Fabrics. The linen shirt with the frilly pocket is an eBay find from Kedem Sasson.
I'm very happy with the pattern. This is my 4th try, so even custom fitted patterns need some tweaking and fussing. I will now be able to change the leg width and length, add design elements, etc.

Sandwiched in between my trip to San Francisco and the workshop I co-led at the Ojai Institute, I had a birthday and DH gave me this:
100,000 BTU's, people...that's hot! I cook a lot of Vietnamese and Thai food, so I have wanted this for a LONG time!

  3. Great slim line pants. San Francisco sounds like Sydney - Asian foods and lots of summer barbecues.

  4. Aren't you glad you did the pattern? I think it's money well spent. I get frustrated when folks say they can't get rid of puddles of wrinkles!!

Happy bday from one gemeni to another. Great gift. Had never heard of such a thing. Must be living under a rock.

  6. wonderful pants Margy - I had a similar experience when I went for a pant fitting session - we only got as far as marking up the muslin, and I still had to make a few changes to them before they fitted how I wanted. Fortunately I have lost a little weight, and have had to take my TNT pattern in, but I don't really even look at other pants pattern, I just add extra's to my basic pair.

Your birthday present looks great fun = enjoy cooking on it.

  11. If you had to credit the great fit with one change from before, what would it be?

    1. IMHO, can't be done with ONE change...every time you make a change in one area, you have to do a compensating change. I think learning what distinguishes my lower body from "normal" was the biggest chunk of info for me. Sorry I can't give you an easy answer!

  16. The fit of those pants is just perfect. A great achievement. I need to make some and I'm just dreading the fitting process. Such a challenge. I'm glad you finally achieved pants nirvana.

  17. Love the pants and covet your having a custom pattern, not to mention your Thai cooker! I visited Thai Imports' site and discovered they're in Issaqua, which is about 20 minutes from me - wow! What a site! It led to excellent local restaurants for DH and me to visit. Their sister site has been recommended by everyone from Oprah to Martha and every chef you can imagine. So - many thanks-- and your pants are wonderful!

    1. Thanks, Anne...what is their sister site?

    2. As cited below by others, it's importfood.com. The restaurant names are from the citation (among their listed recommendations - hope that makes sense - i.e.,the page with Oprah) with the Seattle Times. Double-checked with Yelp -all good, except one apparently gone since written. Don't wear your gorgeous white jacket and pants to eat Thai - at least I couldn't be trusted to.

  19. Margy,

I LOVE the results of the your pants fitting.
    They're simply and absolutely perfect ... I'd
say it was well worth the 3 days of fitting and
tweaking. Was the final pattern of stiff, lasting
paper, and do you still feel you need to muslin?
    Someday ....

You ARE always so glamorous, stylish and beautiful.
I wouldn't be surprised to learn you were a
    Hollywood starlet? ;)

This is a site that offers the same type of Thai cooker
and stand you have ... what a fantastic wok setup.

Product lineup is over on the right, and all their
    catalog items are here:

I can't tell from the video if the wok is securely
attached to the base for safety. I can see how you'd
love it for cooking Thai and Vietnamese. Enjoy it!

    1. Hi, Joy...the final pattern was not on stiff paper, but semi-stiff???? I have traced it twice, and am about to transfer it to oak tag. I'm not sure I need to muslin every time I make it, but I AM aware of how different the results are with different fabrics, so I will try to be aware.

The site you sent is actually where DH got my wok...I had found it a month or so ago, and I strongly "hinted" that's what I wanted! The wok is not attached to the base, but DH built a stand for it, on wheels, and with a shelf so that I can have some place to put my prepared ingredients. I will take a picture of it.

  20. Margy,

Oak tag will be lots more permanent .. then you can
punch a couple of holes in the pieces, hang them up,
and they're all set for the next pair.

Really .. they're just outstanding ..you have a fantastic figure.

The cooker .. well, you're sure an adept hinter.

My concern (and knowing how clumsy things just
seem to 'happen' to me sometimes) is that I would be
stirring, get distracted or stir too vigorously and
knock the whole dang wok off the stand. Then fire
would catch my blouse, my hair and eyebrows would
would be singed and poof! .. LOL ... I know I'd
*have* to have it clamped on and really secured
somehow before I'd be cleared to commence cooking.

I can see how you get all your veggies prepared,
the spices and rice, and with that high heat it
would be ready in no time. Nice! Be careful ..and
enjoy your new epicurean delights and all your
fabulous new pants. I'm looking forward to seeing
    all your new versions.

    ~Joy~

I have been working with Sarah Veblen fitting some pants. Mine looked like your before, and my after looks like yours. The tweaking drove me crazy.
Love your wok as well. Thank you for the review on PR and for showing your before and after photos. It brought my pants struggle into perspective.
