BUSY AS A BEE!

That's me...spring has sprung and I have been buzzing around like a madwoman. I had a dinner party for a dear friend, involving LOTS of Middle-Eastern cooking; my eldest niece and her darling high-school senior son came to visit en route from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, which he will enter this September; DD and DSIL are coming for the weekend, and next week I'm off for a few days in Santa Fe with a group of "Fiberly Friends"...it's all good.

In between activities, I was able to grab some studio time and made this tee

an OOP Vogue pattern by Marcy Tilton (8582). You will notice, I'm sure, that it has some COLOR...it's a very pretty knit from Emma One Sock that had all the right colors in it.

The next project I tackled was a Claude Montana pattern, also OOP, Vogue 1373

I've always loved his designs, and have "collected" a number of them on eBay.
Since these are mostly 1980's patterns, I had to do a lot of work on the shoulders, armscyes and sleeves. They were HUGE, to accommodate the shoulder pads of the times.

The fabric is a black and gray leopard print denim from JoAnn's;

I used black piping on the princess seams in the back.

You can see I have a little more work to do on the shoulder area before I try another one...it can be worn open over a tee, as well.

The last item I made is a shirt/tunic in my old reliable B5526...

The fabric is a beautiful drapey rayon with a lovely hand from a NEW SOURCE!

The site is Smuggler's Daughter...I have ordered several pieces of fabric from her and am very pleased with the quality and speed of delivery.

I made a double collar on it, which is kind of hard to see in the photos...

(that large round thing on my bosom must be a water spot on the lens)
This too, I can wear open over a tank or tee.

Sorry for the dot...

During my sewing times I listened to several audio books...I particularly enjoyed
Daughters of Mars by Tom Keneally, the author who wrote "Schindler's List".
The Daughters of Mars

I'll probably post again before I leave for Santa Fe...

PS, sorry for the duplicate photos, I can't seem to fix them!

  2. you have been busy!! . Very impressive . Well done . I love theClaudeMontana jacket . Whatever happened to Claude . I actually think your shoulders are ok . Maybe you could just add a little pad . We mustnt be totally alergic to them . They do add nice proportions as long as they are kept under control.

  3. I love the double collar. Did you simply insert 2 collars into the collar stand ? Could it be that simple ? I've only recently found your blog, and I love your jackets, especially the Sandra Betzina ikat one.

  4. Margy, what a great group of garments! You made that dot fabric come alive with those red buttons. And I love that Montana jacket! From my perspective, the shoulders look pretty good. A really nice looking jacket!

  5. These are all lovely styles and colours. You've convinced me to make the jacket - with piping.

  6. What a nice looking group of garments! The patterns may be old, but the looks are very fresh. I love the piping on the Montana jacket. Tres chic!
I'm jealous of all of your greenery and roses. Here in Massachusetts things are just starting to green up, and crocus are in bloom. But that's all. I'm trying hard to be patient as I wait for more flowers!

  7. Love how the EOS fabric looks made up. Great T. I made that Montana jacket and pants back in the 80's. It was fun. Your version looks great.

  8. Your dotted shirt looks spectacular with those sassy red sandals and your white trousers. And the piping on the seams is a great detail. Thoughts of sewing stretch fabric make be break out in a sweat, so I am in awe of anyone who can sew a T-shirt, especially one as beautiful as yours. You'll get lots of use from all these great pieces with your busy social schedule. Enjoy!

  9. Very pretty and wearable clothes, Margy! On the striped tee, it looks like you have piped the neckline inside a turned-&-hemmed finish. Did you? and if you did, is there stuffing inside the piping? If there is stuffing, how did you make the piping stretchable?

  12. Lovely pieces, you look great in all of them. I love the jacket especially, it looks so polished and chic!

  13. Love your jackets, Margy - always stunning, as is your selection of fabrics and colours. As to those dots - it's called flare and you'll get them when the sun hits the lens. Either shade the lens with something (even a hand) or point the camera in a slightly different direction and you'll be rid of them. Looking forward to more inspiration in future! Miriam

  17. Three great pieces, Margy! You've inspired me to get out my Claude Montana patterns and pick one for a project, perhaps. You did a great job altering the pattern for a more modern shoulder line. Have fun in Santa Fe.

  18. Your sewing projects are wonderful, as usual...but I'm LOVING that gorgeous rose! It reminds me of a David Austin I had in SC...beautiful flowers and delightful scent :)

Thanks for the new fabric source, too! Have fun on your trip!

  19. As always, I love your new garments and chic style. I'd love to be able to commit to a specific color scheme. Unlike you I can't wear black/white/gray/red due to my coloring but when I see your creations using such fabulous fabrics, I am tempted to try those colors. You are an inspiration to me!

  20. Wow, what beautiful new wardrobe pieces....and I am even more impressed that you squeezed in sewing time during such a busy time. That is my challenge to myself this year so thanks for being an inspiration in many ways. I am also impressed that you adjusted the 80s pattern in the shoulder and armscye. That might be something I work on this year with some of my old Vogue patterns.

  21. What nice additions to your spring wardrobe! I love the tee, for it's stripes, and the fit you achieved. The Montana jacket is totally "you" and very cool looking. I see what you notice in the soulders, but only because you mentioned it and you are static in the pic. Lovely work Margy.

  23. In the edit window, right click on the extra pictures, and then click on "Remove" - should work!

Love and admire your sewing - but I'm captivated by that last pair of shoes!

  24. I, too, love the last pair of shoes! I also got distracted from your wonderful new creations by the roses and tumultuous blossoms in all the photos! Everything looks beautiful and a little wild... love it.

  26. haha...I DID notice the colour Margy! Love it! Having said that, you are a very striking and attractive woman...one whom can wear black and white like nobody else! I also think that the patterns you choose to sew lend themselves so well to your preferred colour palette and fabrication choices. I know; it's no accident. You have that well-trained artist's eye! I've long wanted to visit Santa Fe, and I'm in hopes of seeing photos of your visit with fiberly friends. Great makes Margy! Thanks for the inspiration!

  28. Santa Fe! I just missed you Margy! How fun it would have been to meet you. Sometime in the future, I hope.

I love the double collar. And every one of your lovely creations!

  29. Margy, I have a dress from the thrift store in a fabric like that polka dot. IMO there is nothing better than black/white/red prints. The dress is a size 20 that I wanted to make fit me at size 14. It is quite a challenge. I think I will have to completely cut it apart and remake it.

  30. Santa Fe! Near where I grew (in in Los Alamos). I sure miss it. Santa Fe is such a magical place. I always loved spending time there. Have a GREAT time Margy.
Love all your outfits. Your style is awesome.

  34. I'm in LOVE with that beautiful 'dot' blouse! Love, love, love that - and the fabric looks amazing! I simply must get over my phobia about making shirts and hop to it! I can NEVER find a shirt that fits correctly...! Yours always look so very chic!

Thanks for the heads up on the new fabric source, too! Heading over to their site now :)
