NEW SHOE!

No, I didn't forget the "S"...

My new shoe is an Aircast Walking Brace, size medium. I tore a tendon in my left foot several months ago, but didn't realize what had happened, so I walked on it in Santa Fe, in Chicago, and on my daily 4 mile walk. OUCH! When the pain got unbearable (I'm fairly stoic), I had an MRI and found out what I had
been making worse for 3 months. So now I get to wear this lovely boot 24/7
for 5 or 6 weeks. The good part? I'm 95% pain-free. The bad part? I can only wear shorts (NEVER HAPPEN), "Elephant Leg Pants" (as in the '60s) or skirts.

I do own a few of them...and will be making some more shortly!

I DO love this Luna Luz "Cheerio" Skirt which I blogged about several years ago

and have found a few more similar ones which are on their way.

The necklace that I'm wearing in the above picture with Paddy was made by my
friend Joan and given to me several years ago.

I'm lucky to have such a talented friend!

If any of you sewists have a favorite skirt pattern which DOES NOT involve pleats or gathers around the waist, let me know in the comments! Thanks...

I will be participating in Patti's wonderful Visible Monday show on her blog
later this afternoon...

  1. Aww. Get back on the mend soon! :)

Love McCalls 3830 for a straight skirt and Burda 4/2014 yoked skirt for a more casual vibe.

  2. Oh no, that thing! I mention the orthotic boot of course. I have a bone spur which developed from plantar fascitis years ago so I feel for you.
I'm getting great sewing inspiration in here, though my skills are very green. You always look great!

  3. So sorry to hear about your foot! I love how you're making lemonade out of your situation by making some new skirts. Alas I have no patterns to offer but look forward to the new skirts you'll make.

  4. So sorry about having to wear that particular shoe! I love Style Arc's "Gorgeous Gore" skirt, which is very simple to make and has a nice silhouette.

  5. Awww, that looks tough to wear in the summer heat. Get well soon. My favourite skirt pattern that does not involve pleats for gathers at the waist would be Vogue 1247. I have five versions of it in my wardrobe. Mind you I did lengthen it by 12" so it doesn't look like the pattern envelope at all. I find it extremely comfortable and I love the pockets in the front.

  6. Poor Baby! But you make anything you wear look fashionable - even this 'new shoe.' Surprised you haven't painted or beaded or decorated it in some way yet!

  7. So sorry about your injury! I agree, that new shoe needs some Margy customization. Love the Cheerio skirt. Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday, and I hope you're 100% very soon.

  8. Sorry to hear about your foot. I hope it heals quickly! Your new boot is not quite as funky as a Trippen, but just as unusual looking. Who knows, you might start a trend!

  9. Oh I had the same thing happen last year. The good news is it passes and you get back to normal. Feel better!mm

  10. FAIRLY stoic? Understatement:). Heal quickly! And you do still look great.

  11. Get better soon. Always good to be pain free. There is a bias skirt that I have used a simple elastic waist but I'm sitting at the airport waiting to fly out so I will try and look it up but it is very flattering and super simple.

  13. Oh NO! The good news is you will be fixed in a few weeks... I wish I had a pattern recommendation for you. I love your Cheerio skirt. The grey bootie is tastefully neutral but would you ever consider putting studs on it?

  14. Ouchie! Hope the footsie feels better very soon. And I agree - you need to decorate The Boot!

  15. Well, I bow to you, Margy! You have an athlete's injury! And you are definitely making lemonade out of lemons by viewing this as a wardrobe challenge. As always, you will conquer this challenge in grand style!

  16. I think you are lucky this isn't your sewing foot! Can you imagine the drama of not bring able to use the pedal as you're used too? Get well soon

  17. Well, you certainly know how to deflect attention from the walking brace... Or accessorize it. Those are fantastic necklaces in your pictures.

  18. I'm glad you are mostly out of pain. That brace will surely slow you down but that might not be a bad thing. I had knee surgery in April and my usual lightning speed has been reduced. After some adjustment I recommend it!

In the meantime, you look marvelous!

    Heal well my friend!

  19. Oh, Ouch! Glad you are now mostly pain-free! You are making good lemonade out of your lemons. Skirts are cooler in the Summer. My favorite skirt is Cutting Line Designs "Relax A little". Very comfortable and it has pockets!

  20. It's too bad that you can't have that shoe painted in something fun. That gray is just not your color ;) So sorry that you have to wear it, but happy that you are becoming pain free.

  21. Sorry about the injury, but you do look great in skirts! Sounds like this could be a sewing/designing adventure for you - kudos to you for seeing the positive in it.

  22. Wishing you a fast track on the road to recovery!!! Thank you for steering me to M5433 and B5526. I have made both with great results, incorporating your tip for the double interfacing. The Butterick is especially pleasing and is sure to be a staple pattern for me. Many, many thanks!

  23. Ack! Sorry to hear about your foot, but glad you got it checked out. Love your black and white ensembles.

  25. ditto to everything said above - get well soon

  26. Poor baby! Know that you look lovely in your enforced wider leg ... and you look like there's a glamorous story about the boot. You could easily get us all to believe you injured yourself mountain climbing in Tibet or while summer skiing in Les Deux Alpes!
Seriously, hope you are 100% out of pain very soon!

  27. Margy I'll be wearing the same boot shortly after foot surgery. Do you think Trippen makes a cast boot?
I adore Jody Pearl's Splice Skirt, made many and truly they are just as comfortable as possible, A- line cut on the bias with fun layers you cut through, you can have a lot of fun with different renditions, what you cut away, what you leave, letting layer one or two or three peek through. https://www.flickr.com/groups/1715664@N25/pool/tags/spliceskirt/
I love her Change of Heart Skirt too. Here's where you can buy them http://sewoutsidethelines.bigcartel.com/products
Here's to your speedy recovery and lots of creative fun with skirts

  28. Well that's a stinker. Who needs shoe like that?!? Try Sewaholic's Hollyburn skirt. Very cute, no gathers, and even has pockets. I just did the shortish version in a light denim and will now try the longer version in a more drapey fabric.

  29. Get another boot, wrap it in fur and leather fringe. TaDa! ;0)

Hope the boot wearing time flies by. Get well soon!

  30. So sorry to hear of your injury and hope for a speedy recovery. Because of your sewing talents and skills, you will be able to create stunning ensembles around your new accessory, I'm sure.

  31. I am so behind in reading my friend's blogs...my bad! and am so sorry to hear you injured your tendon. OUCH. I do hope it heals well and soon. And I'm sure you will be the most fashionable boot wearer in the state, if not the nation!

  32. I'm totally in love with that 'cheerio' skirt! Shams told me about your foot, and I've been feeling for you! May you be bopping around with a healthy bounce asap :)
