TKO #2...and a Renovation

As long as I was knocking things off, I made these white linen pants, using my
custom Lynda Maynard pattern, a mid-weight linen from Fabric.com, and some
black and white braid I found last time I was in Portland.

The top is  another V8089 in a linen blend from EOS which Linda called
"sharkfin". It's got a little bit of stretch and I think it must have some rayon in it, as it's quite drapey. Love the fabric!

Of course, I can wear both my wrap belts with it...

The renovation revolved around a jacket I made 3 years and 50 pounds ago...in those days I wore much looser clothing and my friend Shams  hadn't
yet taught me to take pictures of myself...

I used my then TNT jacket pattern, Cutting Line Designs Anything But Ordinary

       BAGGY!

This is how I photographed my travel wardrobes in 2010...

The fabric is a fabulous, unusual one from Marcy Tilton...I've never seen another one like it.

I think it is Japanese; it's a layer of thin black jersey with a very holey denim stitched to the top of it with circular stitching. The holes are "deconstructed" and
therefore very ravelly (it's a bear to sew!). On top of this are large zen-type
circles painted in red, silver and ochre...looks hand painted. I finished it off with a fabulously sparkly red Riri zipper...

It's the only piece of clothing from my "larger" days that I couldn't bear to part with, so it's been hanging in my studio for a couple of years.

When an unusual desire to hem and re-do hit me last week, I tackled the jacket. I had hoped to recut it with princess seams, but there just wasn't enough fabric in the front to do that. (There was plenty in the back, however!)
So, I took it apart, recut it, added front and back vertical darts, shaped the side seams and restyled the sleeves.

The pants are  M6405blogged about here, and the shell is CLD Pure and Simple OOP.

I'm very pleased...I can't wait for fall to wear this again!

DD, the Bride2B, was here with fiancé and her "handlers" (just kidding...the woman coordinating all things wedding is a dear friend and the one who spearheaded cleaning my studio a couple of years ago). We've got lots to do to get the property pretty'd up, and I have a couple of MOB potential patterns to get going on; I can foresee busy-ness!

  1. It's all so wonderful, Margy! That Marcy-fabric jacket is amazing! I'm so glad you were able to re-make it, but what a lot of work! I have never seen a red Riri zipper, but it's perfect!

The texture in that sharkfin linen is to die for. And the top looks fabulous with both wrap belts. I really think that this is one of my favorite looks on you.

And what a great braid. Your pants fit perfectly.

I am in awe of everything!

  4. Beautiful jobs, all of them. I love the first photo, your outfit with the red obi belt. The Japanese thread going through your style is so striking. I'm glad you could resurrect that incredible jacket in the outfit.

  8. Great pieces. That grey jacket is divine and no wonder you couldn't part with the printed one. Great save on that one!

  9. Super stylish, you look great! I especially love your obi belt; I'm knitting a linen one now and plan to experiment with an interface sandwich based on your experience. That will be a first for me - to interface something I knit - but I think it just might be perfect. If not..."renovation" pile!

  27. Hi Margy, visiting via Visible Monday. It's so nice to meet a fellow sewist. I too took a break, or sabbatical if I may borrow your phrase, from sewing clothing. Quite a long break it seems. I am now starting to sew for myself again, and I'm finding a new joy in the process. Discovering interesting fabrics and trims, playing with patterns etc. I really love your outfits and how you've styled them. Look forward to seeing more,

    Sue xo

  28. I have been slowly catching up on blog reading Margy, and wanted to stop and say how stylish these outfits are. I had no idea you had lost 50 lbs...I saw weight loss, but it must have been distributed everywhere and came off very subtly. In any case, lovely work and an inspiration to me to continue to find the best fabric I can afford.
