A Sewing Meet-Up!

Although it would seem that 99.9% of the blogger/sewist meet-ups take place in the San Francisco Bay Area, there was actually one today, 300 miles south, in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley in Santa Barbara County...
This is Robyn W., who I met IRL today for the first time. She identified herself recently in a comment on one of my posts and we wasted no time in getting together for a cup of coffee and a non-stop chat about all things sewing.
Actually, it was NOT non-stop...Robyn waited graciously while Shams and I did
several over-the-phone remote fabric shopping events, like this one, only Shams was at Fabrix in San Francisco this time, relaying in words and pictures some fabulous not-to-be-missed items. Normally, when I am with a friend, I don't take phone calls or texts, but Shams had limited time and the fabrics wouldn't be there very long, so I broke my rule and multi-tasked. I can't wait to see what she bought for me!

Robyn lives less than 5 miles away from me, which is very exciting, as I have been sewing in a vacuum for most of my life (excluding some very good virtual friends...of course!). Robyn is a retired librarian and started a company involving Jerry Yang of Yahoo and advertising, which she took public. She posts occasionally on Stitchers' Guild under the name "InvisibleGirl"...invisible no longer, Robyn!

Robyn is darling, petite and lively, and I can't wait to get together with her again, soon!

  3. How can fabric acquisition be an interruption? It was an enhancement to a wonderful conversation. Thanks, Margy, for getting together. No more hoping to run into you in the grocery store... ;)

I don't get a chance to point out my pokey darts with just anyone!

  5. Only 5 miles - how wonderful is that? And I agree with Robyn - a chat about a rare fabric acquisition event is most certainly not an interruption to sewists ;-)

  6. I agree 5 miles is great my closest sewing friends are in The Netherlands, Houston and Bournemouth which is around 4 hours drive. I am sure your meetings will be more frequent now.

  8. Margy, you are a marvel! Thank you for illustrating the 'method' so we can try and produce one of these wonder vests!
I am a beginner at sewing blogs but I will be eternally grateful to you and others like Jilly and Shams who show just how exciting and creative sewing can be!

  11. Meeting up with your fellow sewer is a great idea, I once saw a blog wherein the blogger meet up with other blogger and exchange stuffs such as haberdashery kits, dressmaking fabrics, books and so on.
