BLACK AND SILVER!

I've been having a little trouble getting back in the swing of things... I made this in a carmine/black knit from Marcy Tilton, but it seemed dark and murky to me and the style was kinda dumpy...so it's already gone to a new home! I have a new pair of silver jeans, and some spectacular silver boots, so it was clear I needed a top to go with them!

Pattern is V8699, OOP, and I used a black light-ish weight ponte from who-knows-where, and a gray with silver dots knit from Girl Charlee. The necklace is a silver chatelaine which I found in Uzbekistan.

The silver jeans are from Chicos and the shoes are black and gray spectator wedges from Sesto Meucci.....

The gorgeous silver boots are "Groove" Distressed Leather Boot in Pewter...Charles by Charles David, which I got from Bluefly...

I'm making it under the wire for Style Crone's Hat Attack, wearing my very old, very beloved Patricia Underwood hat, which is  soft and worn...

'

and also for Patti at Not Dead Yet Style's Visible Monday.

Cooking? Oh, yes...this
and this

both, of course, from Plenty and Jerusalem, by Ottolenghi and Tamimi.

Today, I made two soups for a party my friend Joan and I are giving tomorrow...

Cannellini and Kale soup, and

Winter Squash Soup with Curry and Coconut Milk...YUMM!

  12. Oh, this ole thing? It's just a little something I picked up in Uzbekistan!? Life is always interesting over here. You manage to make silver classy and groovy at the same time. Love your hat! Add a little dust to those boots and I'd say, shove over, Clint.

  15. I love your style. Those jeans are the bomb. I have made every recipe that you have linked in the past 4 - 5 months. You make very good choices. The mix of food and fabric suits you (and me) well. Thank you.

  17. Glad you got rid of that "dumpy" topper, as your style is decidedly undumpy! I have that pattern and I've long thought it would look dumpy, so into the trash bin it will go.
This outfit looks terrific on you. (Do you ever not look terrific?) Love the shoes and boots, too. Sesto Meucci...yum! Wish my feet were a half size smaller so I could wear their shoes.

  20. Silver jeans and boots? Be still my heart! And a Patricia Underwood hat? One of my favorite hat designers. We carried her hats in the hat shop, and I have a few of her beauties which I cherish. You look marvelous, and thank you for linking up with Hat Attack.

    1. Ah, Judith, I'm not surprised you're a PU fan...I have one which my husband swore was designed to scare small children...but I love it! And you are so gorgeous, I love to see your posts!

  22. Well, this ain't dumpy at all! :) You look fantastic! From tip to toe, I see a fresh, forward style sensibility!

I'm relieved to read that it's not just me that sews a garment, and then...meh...it just doesn't work. I find it's happening less as I get older, or maybe it's experience. I seem to be more tuned into what to look for in a pattern or fabric perhaps. But, I still get starry-eyed by unsuitable bits of cloth at times...and sometimes I don't do a good job of visualizing the pattern in the 3-dimensional finished form until, of course, the garment is sewn, and then it's often too late. Bravo to you for allowing the garment to exit your wardrobe swiftly. I can get caught up in the *I made it, so I must keep it.* attitude, although I did quickly donate a pair of shorts I made last year that were all kinds of wrong!

My Plenty just arrived from the library. I've only had time enough for a quick perusal, but I love what I see. Thanks!

    1. Sharp as a tack, Margy! Love those silver jeans.

I do a Portuguese kale soup with red beans, linguica, and tons of kale. Kale makes THE best soup, doesn't it?
