I returned to V1510, Sandra Betzina's vest pattern from last fall. I have been holding on to this verrrrry interesting fabric from EOS which I got a long time ago. It's a medium weight black jersey with squares of faux leather glued on. It looks a little like an alligator, but with a lot more texture...and you know me, I'm all about texture!
I removed the extended shoulder, drafted a facing, and changed the pockets to folded patch pockets. The facing, collar and pocket lining were out of a lightweight faux leather, also from EOS.
Here are closeups of the collar and pockets:
The vagaries of the fabric made this a little hard to fit, but it's unusual and subtle and I really like it! The snuggly boots are my latest Stuart Weitzman find on eBay..."Humzozomay Shearling Studs Wedge Boots"
Dave came in the other afternoon with the first harvest of our "Moro" blood oranges...so we had these at cocktail hour...
Since I had the camera out yesterday, I also took pictures of an outfit I bought in Paris at Juliette Ozouf.I would characterize her clothing as high-end boho...simple shapes, exquisite fabrics, subtle textures.
These are mostly wool, but so lightweight that I can wear them in my climate at least half the year.
Dave and I celebrated our 41st anniversary last week...with a fantastic meal and a bottle of good wine.
To celebrate the arrival of my Rancho Gordo Bean Club quarterly box, I used
the RG Cassoulet beans to make one of my favorite recipes:
Here's the recipe: it's Caramelized Onion Cassoulet and has no meat or cheese in it. It's OUTSTANDING! And while I was at it, I made this: Bon Appetit's Best Chai Masala.
I'm drinking it as I write.
Books? I read "The Dry", a debut novel by Jane Harper set in Australia, which I quite liked. I'm listening to "The Mischling" by Affinity Komar...a very hard book,
but the writing is gorgeous. I listen to it in small segments. It's about a set of twins in Auschwitz. If you can handle the subject matter, it's well worth reading (or listening to).
And finally, sad news about our Teddy...he is deaf. He was not deaf when we picked him up from the breeder, but he is now, and is proving very hard to train.
But we love him dearly and will do everything we can to help him learn his manners.
That's it for now...I'll be heading over to Patti's Visible Monday to join up with the other Visible Women. Come on by!

So very sad to hear about Teddy. I wonder if there are any books on training deaf dogs? Speaking of books I enjoyed reading "The Dry" too. Love your new alligator vest and your outfit from Paris - both so stylish and chic. Karen
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about Teddy's deafness - but we had a deaf cat who had a wonderful time with us and was a great communicator. Loving your new jacket creation. xox

ReplyDeleteI love that vest!
ReplyDeleteGreat vest, the blood orange margaritas look tasty, and Happy Anniversary!

I certainly got a lot out of your post! Sewing update and recipes for food and drinks! Thank you for linking the recipes.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry Teddy is deaf. I guess there will be a different way of training him. He has good human parents!
What a fabulous vest Marcy! Your creations are an inspiration to me! (@sarahjw70)
ReplyDeletePoor Teddy! He will learn, just in different ways. Love your vest, and congratulations on your anniversary.
ReplyDeleteYou can teach your dog basic sign language.
ReplyDeleteLove your vest - both the interesting fabric and how stylish on you. And Happy Anniversary. I used a simple, unique hand sign for each verbal command when I trained my dog. Eventually I used only the signs. It worked just fine. Best wishes for you and Teddy.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing your take on dress. I have an unusual texture piece from Misan Fabrics in London that has been waiting for inspiration. Love the pockets idea you used. Another great nudge to my decisions! Thanks for your talent and time.
ReplyDeleteI'm so impressed at your sewing skills. As a novice at sewing this looks like a tricky fabric to work with. Thanks for sharing and for this diverse and interesting post.

I'm so sorry to hear about your pup....I have a new puppy too, arrived about the same time as your Teddy....Gracie has an ear infection currently, hope that wasn't the case with your Teddy.....love your diverse posts....and all of your makes....read with anticipation each time.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary. Love your new vests, the one you made and the one from Paris. You style your outfits beautifully and uniquely. Sad to learn about Teddy's loss of hearing. He is lucky to have you and Dave.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Teddy will learn signsomething, and be okay. You need to teach "watch me" right away. I would touch near my eye and say it. Remember little Nick? He was deaf too. Lovely clothes and Happy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteQue hermoso!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary and many more wonderful years to you both. I have never heard of a dog being deaf, poor sweet puppy. I love <3 your clothing style.
ReplyDeleteTeddy may be unable to hear but oh, can he smell!! And, dogs are can sense so much, I'm sure he will learn everything you teach!
ReplyDeleteLovely post . Congratulations on reaching such a long and happy life together . Well done both of you .
ReplyDeleteI loved The Dry too . It is so Australian . I could just see it all as I read it in my very inner urban Australian bedroom .I hope someone makes it into a movie . If you enjoyed this book try some Peter Temple . He is an Australian writer who writes Australian Noir type stories. He writes beautifully as well as spinning a great yarn . One of his reoccurring characters is Jack Irish . There are a few jack Irish telemovies about which I have enjoyed.
Happy Anniversary! How unfortunate about Teddy. I have a friend who trained her deaf dog with hand signals but it does take more work. Your vest is amazing in that fabric. I will be in the Juliette Ozouf neighborhood next month so have made a note of it.
ReplyDeleteI just couldn't leave your website before telling you that I truly enjoyed the top quality info you present to your visitors? Will be back again frequently to check up on new posts.
